Most owners have to hire an architect, then an engineer, then a contractor, and then spend the whole project standing between them. We keep all of it in one office. The people who draw your house are the people who build it, which means fewer surprises, fewer change orders, and one phone number when something needs answering.
多数业主要先找建筑师，再找结构工程师，然后再找施工方，接着在整个工期里夹在他们中间来回协调。我们把这些放在同一间办公室里。画你房子的人就是盖你房子的人——意外更少，变更单更少，出了问题只需要打一个电话。

Our Structure

A house that can move a little, so it doesn't have to break.

Almost every house in California is bolted straight to its foundation. When the ground moves in an earthquake, the foundation moves with it, and because the house is locked to the foundation, all of that force is transmitted directly into the walls and the frame. The house has no choice but to absorb the shaking by flexing, cracking, or failing.
加州几乎所有房屋都用螺栓与地基刚性固定。地震时地基随地面移动，而房屋被牢牢锁在地基上，所有的力便直接传入墙体和结构框架。房子没有别的选择，只能靠自身变形、开裂甚至破坏来承受这股冲击。
We build a different way. In our houses, the concrete structure is not bolted to its base. It rests on a smooth stainless steel plate that sits on top of the foundation. Think of a glass on a tray: if the glass is glued down and you jerk the tray sideways, the glass tips over. If it is simply sitting there, the tray slides out from under it and the glass stays standing. Our houses work on that principle. When the ground moves, the structure is allowed to shift slightly instead of being dragged along with it — and the force that would have gone into cracking your walls gets spread out and absorbed instead.
我们的做法不同。房屋的混凝土主体并不与基础栓接，而是安放在一块光滑的不锈钢板上，钢板置于基础之上。可以想象托盘上的玻璃杯：如果杯子被粘死，你猛地一抽托盘，杯子就翻了；如果只是放着，托盘从底下滑走，杯子仍然立着。我们的房子用的正是这个道理。地面移动时，结构可以产生轻微位移，而不是被地基拽着一起晃——那些本会用来撕裂墙体的力，被分散和吸收掉了。
The method is protected by a granted United States patent, and it is why we do not separate design from construction. A structure like this only works if the people drawing it and the people pouring the concrete are the same team.
该做法已获美国专利授权。这也正是我们坚持设计与施工不分家的原因——这样一套结构，只有当画图的人和浇筑混凝土的人是同一个团队时，才做得成。

The structure is reinforced concrete rather than wood framing — quieter between rooms, and substantially more fire resistant.

Sealed against weather

Double-glazed windows in aluminum frames, which also hold up far better than standard glazing in high wind.

Fire-rated doors

Fire-resistant, security-rated doors as standard, so a fire in one room stays in that room longer.

Roofs are designed from the outset to carry solar panels, rather than having them retrofitted later.
